Gregg Carlstrom

Middle East correspondent, The Economist

I’m a Middle East correspondent for The Economist. I have covered the region for more than 15 years, reporting on many of its biggest events firsthand, from the revolutions of the Arab Spring to the wars that followed October 7th.

Before The Economist, I was an Israel/Palestine correspondent for The Times of London. My work has also been published in a range of other outlets, including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Politico and The Atlantic.

I’m a regular guest on TV and radio, including the BBC and CNN. My first book, How Long Will Israel Survive? The Threat From Within, was published by Oxford University Press in 2017.

I grew up in New York, graduated from Northwestern University in 2007 and am now based in Dubai.
